This Privacy Policy describes how Ali3N Studios LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Extinct mobile application (“App”). This policy supplements our general Ali3N Studios Privacy Policy.
Extinct is a companion app for people using The Sinclair Method (TSM), a naltrexone-assisted approach to alcohol use disorder. We take the privacy of your health and recovery data extremely seriously. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
1. Data We Collect
Authentication Data
The App uses Firebase Authentication. You may continue as an anonymous guest, sign in with email/password, or sign in with Google. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name (where provided), email address, and a unique user ID. This data is used solely for account management and data synchronization across devices.
Drinking Diary & Medication Logs
When you log a drinking session, the App stores the date and time, drinks recorded, units consumed, location notes you add, mood (good / neutral / difficult), naltrexone medication taken (yes/no, time, dose), and any notes you write. For signed-in accounts this data is stored in Firebase Firestore; in guest mode it is stored only on this device.
TSM Configuration
Your baseline (units per week before TSM), TSM start date, medication choice (naltrexone or nalmefene), and unit system (UK or US) are stored as user preferences. For signed-in accounts these are synced to Firestore; in guest mode they remain on-device.
Milestones & Extinction Curve Data
The App calculates compliance ratios, weekly aggregates, and extinction-curve progress from your diary entries to display your progress. These derived values are stored alongside your diary entries.
AI Reflections
If you use one of the AI reflection features, the text sent and the response returned are processed transiently as described in Section 2. Nothing from them is stored on our servers.
Extinct no longer has an open-ended AI chat. The AI Consult feature was withdrawn in September 2026 following a review by a Sinclair Method training organisation. Extinct does not answer questions about medication, dosing, dose timing, side effects or drug interactions — those are questions for your prescriber, and an app is not the right place for them. Conversations you saved before the feature was withdrawn remain readable in the App.
Analytics & Crash Reports
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous usage data and crash reports. This helps us improve app stability and understand feature usage. No drinking diary content, journal text, AI reflection content, or personal recovery data is included in analytics.
2. Third-Party AI Processing
Extinct has two optional AI features, and both only reflect back information you have already written or logged. Neither answers questions, and neither gives advice of any kind. The following disclosure applies to them.
Who receives your data
Your inputs are transmitted to Anthropic, the operator of the Claude AI model, via Amazon Web Services (AWS) Bedrock, an AWS-hosted AI gateway. Requests are routed through our secure proxy server at api.ali3nstudios.com before reaching AWS Bedrock. Anthropic and AWS are independent third-party data processors.
What is sent
What is transmitted depends on which of the two features you use.
- Weekly interpretation: a short context summary derived from your TSM configuration and diary — medication name, baseline units per week, weeks since TSM start, this week’s unit total, recent compliance ratio, missed doses in the last seven days, and unit system — plus your weekly intake totals.
- Journal theme analysis: the complete text of your seven most recent journal entries, exactly as you wrote them, together with their dates and mood tags.
We do not attach your name, email address, account identifier, location, device identifiers or contacts to any request.
We cannot, however, remove identifying details from text you have written yourself. If you name a person, a place or an employer in a journal entry, that text is transmitted as written. Nothing filters it. If you would rather particular writing never left your device, do not run an AI feature over it — every other part of Extinct works without them.
How your data is used
Anthropic and AWS process your inputs solely to generate the AI response that is returned to you. Your inputs are not used to train Anthropic’s models, in accordance with Anthropic’s Commercial Terms of Service and AWS Bedrock’s terms. We do not retain your inputs on our proxy server after the AI response is returned. Anthropic and AWS may retain operational logs as described in their respective privacy policies (see the Anthropic Privacy Policy and the AWS Privacy Notice).
Your explicit consent
Every AI feature is something you start deliberately. Nothing is sent in the background, and no AI feature runs unless you tap it. You may ignore them entirely and continue using Extinct — the Golden Rule reminders, drinking diary, extinction curve, milestones, selective extinction, and physician PDF all work without them.
The first time you use an AI feature the App shows a consent screen naming Anthropic and AWS Bedrock, describing what will be sent and how it will be used. No data is transmitted unless and until you accept. You may decline and carry on using Extinct without either AI feature — the Golden Rule reminders, drinking diary, extinction curve, milestones and physician PDF all work without them.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw at any time in Settings → AI features. Nothing further is sent after that, and you will be asked to review the disclosure again before any future AI request. Your consent belongs to the account that gave it — signing in as someone else on the same device does not carry it over, and deleting your account removes it.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data
- We do not collect contacts or address book data
- We do not collect health or fitness data from device sensors
- We do not collect browsing history
- We do not access your camera or photos
- We do not serve advertisements or collect advertising identifiers
- We do not track users across other apps or websites
- We do not sell any user data
4. Data Storage & Security
- All cloud data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore, which provides encryption at rest and in transit
- AI reflection requests are transmitted via HTTPS to our secure server proxy
- Guest-mode data is stored on your device and never reaches our servers
- Android: guest-mode data (local files, a Room database and DataStore preferences) is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so it does not leave your device that way either
- iOS — included in backup: your diary, journal, streak, milestones, selective-extinction entries and custom drinks are included in your iPhone’s iCloud or encrypted local backup, so that losing or replacing your phone does not lose months of treatment history. Those backups belong to your Apple ID and are encrypted; we have no access to them.
- iOS — deliberately excluded from backup: your archived AI conversation history and any physician PDF you generate. These are the most sensitive files the App writes and neither is needed to restore your progress — a report can be regenerated in one tap, and the archived conversations are historical reflection material rather than records. They exist only on that device and are lost if you delete the App or move to a new phone. Old physician PDFs are removed automatically; only the most recent one is kept.
- iOS — opting out entirely: to keep everything out of iCloud, turn Extinct off under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Backups → this iPhone.
- Diary entries in guest mode are device-bound — uninstalling the app removes them from the device
5. Data Sharing
We share data only with:
- Anthropic (Claude AI) via AWS Bedrock — receives the AI inputs described in Section 2, which for journal theme analysis includes the full text of your recent journal entries. Sent only after you grant explicit consent. Not used to train AI models. See Section 2 for the full disclosure.
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, data storage, analytics, and crash reporting
- Google Play Billing — processes Pro subscriptions. Google handles payment data; we never see your card or billing details.
We do not share data with data brokers, advertisers, or any other third parties.
6. Data Retention
- Account data, drinking diary entries, milestones, and TSM configuration are retained while your account is active
- AI reflection request payloads are processed transiently and not stored on our server beyond the request
- You can delete individual diary entries from within the App
- Account deletion (see Section 8) removes your cloud-side data — diary, journal, milestones, selective-extinction entries, streak, profile and share records — and the App’s data on that device, including generated physician PDFs
- Uninstalling the app removes all guest-mode data from the device. On iOS, restoring from a backup that was made while that data existed will bring back the parts of it that are backed up; on Android, guest-mode data is excluded from backup and does not return.
7. Children’s Privacy
Extinct is designed for adults (21+ in the US, or the legal drinking age in your jurisdiction) using a physician-prescribed medication for alcohol use disorder. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the App, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
8. Your Rights & Account Deletion
What deletion does not do: it does not cancel your Pro subscription. Subscriptions are sold and billed by the app store, not by us, and billing continues until you cancel it there — on iOS in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions, on Android in the Play Store under Subscriptions. Cancel first if you want billing to stop. The App links you to that screen before deletion for this reason.
If part of a deletion cannot be completed — a network failure part-way through, for example — the App tells you which part failed rather than reporting success. Email developer@ali3nstudios.com and we will remove the remainder.
You have the right to:
- Access your data — all data is visible within the App
- Delete your data — you can delete individual diary entries from within the App, or perform full account deletion via Settings → Delete account & data, or via this web form
- Revoke a share — a trusted-person link you created stays revocable from within the App even if your Pro subscription lapses. Losing access to a privacy control by not paying would be the wrong way round.
- Use guest mode — if you prefer not to sync data to the cloud, the App is fully functional as a guest with all data on-device

9. No Advertising
Extinct does not display advertisements. We do not collect advertising identifiers. We do not participate in any advertising networks. Your recovery is not a monetization opportunity.
10. Third-Party Links
The Resources section links to external sites (TSM Options, telehealth providers, community forums). These sites are operated independently and have their own privacy policies. We do not transmit any user data to these services — tapping a link simply opens your browser.
11. Not a Medical Device or Substitute for Care
Extinct is an educational companion tool for people pursuing The Sinclair Method under a clinician’s care. The App does not provide medical advice, diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, or replace consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. Naltrexone is a prescription medication and must be obtained and supervised by a licensed clinician.
The App will not answer questions about your medication. Dose, dose timing, how long to wait before drinking, side effects and interactions with anything else you take are decisions for the clinician who prescribed it — they depend on factors an app cannot know. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist, and taking it alongside opioid medication can cause a serious withdrawal reaction. Always tell your prescriber everything you are taking.
The extinction-curve visualization and the AI reflection features are intended for personal reflection only and do not constitute medical, psychological, or pharmacological advice.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
